Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About FurBulous DogTM

Do you have questions about our shampoo? Read these questions and answers. They cover most of the information.

What are the ingredients?

FurBulous DogTM Shampoo contains saponified organic coconut, olive and jojoba oils, natural essential oil blend including tea tree and organic orange oil, organic aloe vera and rosemary extract. FurBulous DogTM Flea & Tick Shampoo has all the ingredients above, plus a special ingredient called neem. FurBulous DogTM is safe, organic bath care for dogs and ideal for sensitive or itchy dog skin.

What is Neem?

Neem is an oil that comes from the Indian Neem Tree and has antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. It is used in natural insect repellant products and those used to treat lice and other skin problems.

What does it mean to be USDA Certified Organic?

Both FurBulous DogTM products are certified organic by the USDA. This means that 95% of the product is organic, meaning that its ingredients are free from pesticides, chemicals and preservatives. It is deemed to be good for the environment as organic products are made with renewable resources and focus on conservation of soil and water. Plants that ingredients come from must be packaged as certified USDA organic. All equipment that packs natural essential oils must be cleaned before packing as organic.

Many others use the term "organic."
Are they the same as FurBulous DogTM?

In 2000 the National Organic Standards Board of the US Department of Agriculture defined “organic” by how a product cannot be made. It cannot be made with fertilizers, pesticides, genetic engineering, growth hormones, irradiation, or antibiotics. The USDA regulates the term “organic”, and those who have passed this test will be certified. Be sure to ask for the organic certification if someone is using the word.

How are "Organic" products
different from “Natural” products?

Natural is not a term regulated by any government agency or department. Natural means that something is made from botanical resources, with no additives or preservatives. You can still have a natural product grown from plants that have been treated with pesticides, which makes it non-organic. Most companies who use the term mean that there are no synthetic (made from a chemical or man-made process) ingredients.

How can other companies get away
with labeling their products "organic"?

If a product is made with at least 70% organic products, it can use these terms, “made with organic ingredients”. However, the term “organic” is not supposed to be used on the principle display label.

Why don’t I get much lather
when washing my dog with FurBulous DogTM?

An ingredient in shampoos that gives you lots of foam and lather is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is not a friendly ingredient. OSHA’s Material Safety Data Sheet on SLS reads like a hazardous material warning, as it causes irritation to the skin, eyes, and can cause nausea. Is that what you want to put on your dog’s sensitive skin? SLS is used in human shampoos, too, but many people don’t get to the point of irritation since the shampoo is only on their heads for a short time and is diluted by water. So the answer is: we’ve been conditioned to think that lather means good and clean, which is not necessarily the case. FurBulous Dog contains no sulfates of any kind

How much shampoo should I use for my dog?

We wish we could give you a more specific answer, but the answer is, it depends on the size of your dog and how much hair he has. Think about human shampoos. Occasionally, some shampoos may say “use a dime sized” amount or some other vague instruction. There are many things that can affect how much you use including how wet the hair is to begin with, how big the dog is, how thoroughly you wash every inch of your dog, etc. Our recommendation for the dog washer is to start with a light coating (spray-on bottle) or 6-8 pumps (foamer bottle) for a small dog and adjust from there. Our own testing has shown that you can shampoo approximately 20 large dogs from one 550 ml bottle. FurBulous Dog goes a long way.

Should I use the spray-on or foaming pump bottle?

Both have their advantages, and this is really up to personal preference. Some of the benefits we see are:

Foaming pump:

  • Can set on the surface and be pumped with one hand if you need the other one to hang onto your pet.
  • It’s larger, so it will last longer.
  • It’s larger so it may be preferred for people with bigger dogs.
  • It comes out in a foam, so it may produce the “lather” that people are looking for.
  • You don’t have to aerate the product to make it come out of the bottle, as you do with the spray-on.

Spray-on bottle:

  • Non-aerosol is friendly to the environment.
  • The spray may make it easier to cover the dog completely before washing.
  • It gives even coverage.
  • The spray makes it easier to get to those hard-to-reach areas and folds in the dog’s skin.

How do I use the spray-on bottle?

Push the cap of the bottle down 4-5 times to aerate the product. Remove the cap and spray. Each time you want to spray more, you’ll aerate it first.

What is the shelf life of FurBulous DogTM shampoos?

These products are made of essential oils, and pure essential oils do not go rancid. Over time, however, essential oils can oxidize, deteriorate and gradually lose their therapeutic value and aromatic quality.
The lifespan of essential oils can vary from one botanical to the next, from one batch to the next, and from one supplier to the next. Other factors that can directly affect the shelf life of an essential oil include methods of production and storage. As a general rule of thumb, essential oils usually retain their aromatic and therapeutic quality for 1-2 years.
